The Office

They sat at the same desks every day.
Same screens. Same chairs. Same hours.

They spoke about weather, deadlines, lunch.
Never about what was heavy.

When one of them stopped speaking altogether,
no one noticed at first.

The emails kept coming.
The chair stayed warm.

Later, they said,
“He seemed fine. He was always here.”

And the room agreed.
